Trey represents major insurers and large corporate clients in a wide array of matters, including commercial disputes, insurance coverage, intellectual property, transportation, securities, maritime, workers compensation and bankruptcy. Trey’s practice centers on both appellate advocacy and litigation of complex commercial matters.
As an appellate attorney, Trey has briefed and argued appeals and writs pending before the Louisiana Supreme Court, Louisiana’s intermediate appellate courts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He also has contributed to briefing in the Supreme Court of the United States. Trey is recognized for his deep knowledge of procedural law and his ability to use that knowledge strategically to frame issues, preserve arguments, and shape favorable out comes on appeal. Clients and colleagues turn to him for his ability to quickly absorb extensive records, to understand complex legal issues, and to distill both into persuasive advocacy. Trey firmly believes that, at the appellate level, litigation is not merely about winning a particular case; it also about shaping the law in ways that serve his clients’ long-term interests.
The foundation of Trey’s appellate practice is his extensive trial experience, having shepherded numerous jury trials to favorable verdicts. This dual perspective gives him a unique appreciation for how decisions made in the trial court shape the appellate record. Trey’s clients benefit from his ability to balance the sometimes-competing objectives of trial and appeal—pursuing immediate success in front of a jury while simultaneously safeguarding the issues most critical for long-term protection on appeal. This strategic balance ensures his advocacy is not only effective in the moment, but also durable if the case advances to higher courts.
Whether at trial or on appeal, Trey’s practice is grounded in his belief that the core of all effective advocacy is a deep, personal understanding of his clients’ businesses, policies, practices, cultures, and people. To obtain that understanding, Trey places a premium on developing close working relationships with his clients, which enables him to ensure that his legal strategies are aligned with his clients’ values and objectives, both now and in the future.
A graduate of Tulane Law School, Trey obtained the Admiralty Law Program’s prestigious Maritime Law Certificate and has extensive experience handling maritime matters. He has leveraged that education and experience in defense of clients from all over the world confronted with admiralty and maritime claims, both in the United States and abroad.
A native of South Carolina, for many years now, Trey’s home has been New Orleans. He is deeply invested in his community, serving as a board member of the Musical Arts Society of New Orleans and as the cantor at the Basilica of St. Stephen, reflecting his lifelong dedication to music and the arts. When not working, Trey can be found rooting for the Saints and Tulane University, playing his piano, digging in his garden, and cooking all the great foods for which New Orleans is, quite rightly, famous.
